INSIDER’S GUIDE

Interesting Things to Do – Adults

• Jetski – very reasonably priced. Motorboats and banana boats for only a little more. Parasail – not cheap, but worth it; fly by yourself or in tandem, if you have fear of heights; relax: the mechanism is sort of safe (so we were told, though not in writing), and the view will distract you.

• Scuba dive just offshore. Choose from the shallow reefs, a wall that plunges 300 meters, or a submarine cave. If you don’t dive, here’s a good place to learn, reasonably priced, in the safety of our own lagoon.

• Watch the sunset (almost daily) or moonrise (around full moon every month) from a rooftop. Bring a drink (cheap) Sunsets at Plantation Bay Resort & Spa are among the loveliest in the world, alternating from soft pastels to riotous Maxfield Parrish displays. And if you can’t see moonrise over water on this trip, it’s a spectacle worth coming back for.

• Do the Plantation Bay Jello-Man Multithlon. If that sounds too strenuous, or if your spouse doesn’t like the part about kissing a Guest Services Officer, try tennis, bicycling (borrow one from us – no charge for the first hour), pitch and putt, wall climb – carefully planned, precisely constructed, and sequenced with gradual levels of difficulty – archery and live ammunition shooting.

• Visit the Spa – Mogambo Springs. Relax, unwind and revitalize your mind, body, and spirit. Enjoy the hot and coldwater pools or sweat out all the toxins in the infrared sauna or steam room. Try any one of the facial or massage treatments and experience total pampering.

• Get a manicure, pedicure or nail art at the Nail Spa at Mogambo Springs and make sure you are all made up for the dinner date in one of our wonderful restaurants.

• Check out the Gameroom and Gym (across Yucatan House). Billiards, arcade games, air-cushion hockey, table tennis, cards and board games. For the health-conscious, we also have exercise equipment, weights, and nutritious ice-cold beer.

• Hassle-free golf? Try our golf package. We arrange everything for you, all you have to do is play.

• Visit Plantation Bay Bazaar, Jamaica Market, Poppa Banana, and Mango Republic. Handicrafts, souvenirs and sundries. Reasonable prices. Plantation Bay Resort and Spa souvenir items can be purchased through your Butler or Housekeeping.

Interesting Things to Do – Families

• Supervised play at our Children’s Center, open 8AM - 10PM or upon request. Toddlers will enjoy the children’s fresh water swimming pool nearby. Toys and floats available.

• Look at the colorful tropical marine fishes in our natural aquarium at the lobby. Ask the Bell Service for fish food and feed the fish!

• Fishing at the fishing pond in front of Valhalla, well stocked with garoupa. Guaranteed results! If you can’t catch a fish here, you’d better shift to water volleyball. You may catch-and-release (free), or catch-and-cook (not free). As for volleyball, ask our recreation personnel for the ball. If you’re short of team-members, some of our recreation attendants can fill in (but be forewarned – they cheat).

• Kayaks and Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) in the lagoon. Get your kids to do paddling while you sit back and relax until they tip you over.

• Read the green signs all around the resort. They’re informative and interesting. You may discover a few amusing facts and learn more about Plantation Bay Resort & Spa while doing so. The initials on the signs honor the people who built the hotel that was 100% Filipino-designed, engineered, and furnished.

• Test your courage at the Dive Rock beside the Kilimanjaro swimming pool, a thrill for children of all ages. You will be going into deep water, so you can dive headfirst if you like. On the other hand, if you can’t swim, this may not be a good idea.

• Palermo Restaurant has a terrific selection of inexpensive tapas and pastas. Don’t miss the tiramisu, which we’ll stack up against anybody’s. Kilimanjaro Kafé offers an extensive children’s menu that’s sure to impress your discriminating youngsters; it also serves memorable char-broiled hamburgers, a smashing salmon fillet and a double chocolate fudge. For a change of pace, try Fiji, with authentic sushi and sashimi, as well as Plantation Bay Resort & Spa’s renditions of various Pacific Rim favorites.

• There aren’t many places in the world where you can night-bathe in safety and comfort. At Plantation Bay Resort & Spa, try it in any lagoon or the swimming pool. The air might be brisk, but the water should be warm and soothing. The lagoons are extensive; stay near lighted areas close to shore. Avoid dark corners, which may be occupied by romancing couples.

Note: No lifeguards on duty after 8 PM. Please let a hotel officer know before swimming outside posted lifeguard hours and we’ll assign someone to watch over you.
